Updates from the Med...

Hello Everyone!

I guess it's about that time to update you on everything going on for me. I'm still loving my new ship, the Quest. It's got a great atmosphere, and most everyone is very nice. I'm doing well with the job, really understand it, and feel empowered here to be able to do what I need to do on my own, as well as learn more. I have a great Financial Controller who asks for my help with extra jobs so I am keeping myself busy enough. We're currently on the first of 4 10 day cruises, so they are a little shorter than the 14's and a little busier of course since we have to have the same amount of work done in a bit shorter time period, but I'm enjoying it.

I've now been to quite a few nice ports, including Istanbul - AMAZING!!! Can't wait to get back there next month! The Guest Relations Manager, the International Hostess and I all went for a turkish bath in Istanbul - and let me tell you, having someone else wash you is a pretty great idea...Anybody want to start a turkish bath with me in victoria??? LOL...We enjoyed it so much that we went again the other day when we were in another part of Turkey. And we will go again!!! The Ukraine was beautiful, I didn't get to see a whole lot of it, didn't plan very well to get out and see things, but maybe next year if I'm on the same ship. I got to swim in the Black sea when we visited Varna, Bulgaria - it was a very nice beach, warm water...

Onboard, there is definitely a bit of news, I met someone new, a sweet man - he works as a Butler in the Housekeeping department. We've been seeing each other for a little over a week now, and I really enjoy his company.

Not much else to update you on, I'll post some new pictures soon!

Love and miss you all!

Tabs Travels again...

Hello all! I know it's been some time since I last wrote you...but if my first week and a half has anything to show for it, I'll definitely be writing a lot more than I did last contract!!!

I am now on the Azamara Quest, it's a small ship, only about 700 passengers and 400 crew. It's lovely, all very new, all very clean, all very classy...but I'm getting ahead of myself...

Vacation was great, went to the Okanagan, and visited good friends and family that I hadn't seen in a couple of years. A friend from ships asked me during my vacation 'what was I doing on this vacation that I'd never done before?' My answer was nothing...his response was 'don't tell me that!' So I decided, I needed to come up with something I had never done before - and of course after some suggestions from friends, my mom was the one that knew me best, and had suggested going zip lining...So i forked over $75 to go on a zip line tour in Sooke, and it was a blast! Thanks Dave & Jen for coming with me! I do have pictures, and will post them soon, but still need to load them to my computer! I will I promise!

Ok, back to the new ship, when I first arrived, I had to stay in a guest room (oh, so sad isn't it?) cause there were no crew rooms available to me, and unlucky for me (hahahah) I had to stay in a room with a balcony (such a hardship)...lol...don't worry I took advantage, I took pictures from my room, I opened that door everytime I went into my room, it was great fun. Now, I'm still in a guest room, for another week but it's not a balancy, nor does it have a window, but I have it all to myself, so it's still fabulous!

The Job - You know i was promoted??? I was a little nervous about this, I've no assistance from Apprentices here on this ship, but the guy I'm replacing has been great, and I'm now feeling very confident about the job, and will do just fine when he leaves next week.

The Places - Unfortunately I haven't yet had enough time between mandatory ship trainings and training on the job to get out too much, but so far Italy is definitely a place to see. Sorrento is where I joined the ship, and had a great drive from the airport, it's beautiful, and I can't wait get outside and explore on my own there. I was out in a little place called La Spezia which is near florence, but not close enough to get there in the time I had unfortunately cause La Spezia is not such a great place. I've also been out in Livorno, which is also close to Florence as well as Piza, and so far Livorno seems like a nice place - it's so far had the nicest buildings and a canal that runs through the town. Tomorrow I will go out in Ravenna, and after we are in Ravenna we have an overnight in Venice - and I'm SUPER excited about that! Can't wait!

The People - I've met a lot of really nice people here on this ship, the crew is very friendly, very accepting, and I can't wait to get to know them better.

So, all in all, so far a great experience, and there's definitely going to be a lot to write home about over the next 6 months. I think I'm always going to be excited about the next port and what there is to see - there are a lot of options to host tours here as well, so hopefully I'll get to do that quite often!

Anyways, I've probably written more than you wanted to hear about so I'll stop now, and wait to hear from you! And again, i promise pictures on my picasa site soon!

Love you all!
Miss you all!

Just 6 weeks left!!!!

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are all well, I'm doing pretty good. So, I'm here on Infinity still, I've been here almost a month now, and I'm enjoying being back on this ship, there's lots of old friends, and of course some new ones as well! The 2 best things, my good friend Josue is here and we've had so much fun together, and there are so many latins that you are falling over partners for dancing during latin night! Of course Josue is the best partner!

So, what's going on with me? Well, after never going to the doctor on my first contract, I'm making up for it now! Just before I left Galaxy I had to go for pain in my neck, I had stressed myself out too much and had a big knot, big enough to need some muscle relaxants! And at beginning of the last cruise, unfortunately I got GI, so I was confined to my cabin for 48 hours - it was so boring! I did not enjoy having that time off...I had to rely on someone else to deliver my meals - the one time it took more than 3 hours - I was so starving! Then today I had to go back to the doctor cause I've got some strange stuff going on with my leg - the doctor for now thinks it's an infection, so I'm taking antibiotics - so I hope that's all it is and it'll clear up in the next few days.

I'm really enjoying the ports on the Pacific side of the Panama Canal - Costa Rica, and Mexico. Costa Rica is alright, but they have a great place to have 'Fruit Salad' It's not just fruit though, it also has ice cream, nuts, chocolate sauce, raisins and coconut in it - so yummy! Mexico has been really fun as well, I've enjoyed eating out - and I found a ring that I really liked in Huatulco last time that I need to go back and buy tomorrow! My new favorite port though is Acapulco! It looks like such a fun city! And I have had a lot of fun there, we go to this restaurant called Paradise - it is all outside seating, some on the beach, and some in the restaurant, and it has a pool, and bungy jumping (not that I've done that!) But what we do is sit in the restaurant, order our drinks and food, then we go swim in the pool and wait for our food to arrive? Is that paradise or what? After lunch today in Acapulco, Josue and I decided to rent a jet ski! It was so fun! But the poor guy, everytime we went over a wave I screamed, then giggled in his ear - I think he's still got some ringing in his ears tonight...

Well, we are currently on our way back to Ft Lauderdale, and we have about a month before we will be arriving in Victoria for the first time! And that means just a couple more weeks and I'll be home for vacation! Things feel like they have gone so much faster this contract! I think transferring ships really helped with that in the middle of my contract. It's been a great contract I think, and I'm looking forward to my next contract (but definitely looking forward to a nice vacation first!) when I will be a guest account purser. I'm still waiting to hear what ship I will be on, but Patric and I are going to try to be together. Currently he is scheduled for the new ship, Equinox, but I will not be going there, so we will need to try to get him to request whatever ship I will be going to.

Anyways, I've chatted enough I think, so I'll say goodbye for now. Keep in touch! Miss you all!

Updates

Hi Everybody! Are you still reading? Hope so! I've got lots to say today!

Well, last time we chatted I told you that I was asked to Step up as GAP (Guest Account Purser) for the last 3 cruises on Galaxy. Well, I did, it was tough, but it was worth it! It was really good experience, and I've been told that my manager, Giuber was pleased with how I did, as was the Traveling Financial Controller who was onboard to assist with closing the ship. BUT, it was such hard work, and I was so busy that my tan has left...Don't know where it went, but one day, I looked at my arms, and they were whiter than before...Not good when you spend the winter in the Caribbean, aren't you supposed to leave with a tan? We'll, hopefully I can start working on that again. LOL

Okay, so next, we closed the Galaxy! It was so sad! It was such a nice ship, this ship has a special aura about it, it makes you feel special by just coming there. It's hard to explain what it was, but most people that worked on that ship had the same feeling from it, you were home the moment you set foot on the ship, and you just felt good being there. I hope that this feeling stays with the ship for the new owners. It was hard to leave it. By the time I left on the 16th, the casino and the spa had been completely torn apart, and there were so many people onboard that we didn't recognize - All the new owners crew....It was a tough time those last few days, we had to arrange payroll for all of the crew leaving, and that took a lot of time. Our department was working 12 to 16 hour days, some people even more some days, I think the financial controller didn't sleep for a day and a half at one point. It was crazy. I did come away slightly injured though, after all the stress, I ended up with a giant knot in my back that still hasn't gone away - despite massages and muscle relaxants - I think I'm going to have to go to the spa!

I left on March 16th, to travel back to Infinity. It was a tough day as well! We were required to be up at 4:30 am, to be ready for immigration at 5:30 - but of course, they didn't show up till 8am I think? So we didn't actually leave the ship until 9:30 in the morning. We were all dumped at the airport by 10am, even though, some of us - in this I mean ME! did not have flights until 7:30 at night! So, I enjoyed the airport seats for hours all day in San Juan...not so much...I was so tired! I'd had only 4 hours sleep the night before! For this flight, from San Juan Puerto Rico to Miami, it was 2 and a half hours, but once we took off, next thing I knew we had 45 minutes till landing! I slept so well! Then once in Miami, I had just 1 hour until my next flight to Santiago. Again, I slept quite well on the plane to Chile, probably got about 4 or 5 hours out of the 8 hour flight....but of course, still tired when I got there! It wasn't good sleep, but at least it was sleep! I was then supposed to sit in the airport another 10 hours till my next flight, but lucky for me, I asked if there was an earlier one, and there was, it was leaving in 15 minutes. So I got on that and arrived in Arica, chile a few hours early. I was able to go to my hotel at 3pm, and get some pool time, and rest. I took some pictures of an amazing sunset from the beach at the hotel - to be posted soon!

I came to meet the ship Infinity yesterday morning, but they claimed my medical information was not complete, so I had to go to the hospital for blood tests - does it not seem odd to you that it was fine last time I was on Infinity? And when I went to Galaxy? But apparently, it's not enough anymore! I had to wait over an hour outside for the Port Agent to pick me up to take me there, and then a couple hours there to have these tests done. But, it was done, and I'm onboard now. I was lucky with the new Financial controller, she didn't expect me to work last night so I was able to rest some more, and I'm feeling pretty good today, except for a headache that doesn't want to go away.

So for now, I'm here, I have a new roommate who seems alright so far, the team seems nice but haven't had much time to get to know them. We are on our first of four Panama Canal Cruises before heading up to Alaska (and Home!) I'm currently scheduled to disembark on June 5th, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that they will need a GAP before then, so things may still change!

Anyways, keep in touch, miss you all!

Finally! I have news!

Okay, I know it's been WAY too long, but I swear, there wasn't much to tell! Half of you have probably abandoned reading the blog, but that's too bad for you...

Okay, so what's happened since the beginning of January??? Not a lot, I've enjoyed the islands, we mostly go out to eat, and then wander around for a bit - I haven't taken too many pictures, cause there really aren't a lot of sights to see. I've been to the beach a few times, there are some nice beaches on these islands! I've got a bit of a tan, mostly from being burnt and it fading to a tan. LOL

I've been to see my cousin Doug and his girlfriend in Barbados a couple of times, it was so nice last cruise to have a home cooked meal with them. Then they showed me the beach across from their apartment, it was so nice.

I seem to have found a very nice man, we've been dating since New Years and I'm sad that when we transfer ships in March when the ship closes that we may not be together. His name is Patric, he's from South Africa - and no I don't have a picture yet! Soon I promise! LOL - I'm sure you don't believe my promises, but I will! Maybe after Barbados this cruise!

Okay, so here's for the big news! The Guest Account Purser, Amy, and I got called into the Financial Controllers office yesterday morning to be told that Amy must transfer to the Century on Feb 18th, and that the office would be sending an apprentice from the Solstice to get a 3 day handover to take over the GAP position. Well, he didn't like hearing that, so he replied and suggested that I should take a step up instead. The office agreed and so here I go, my chance at getting the GAP (Guest Account Purser) position! I will have about a month to prove myself! When Amy leaves next week, I will have 3 cruises to close, plus have to help with closing the ship! If I can prove myself, hopefully they will give me a chance to keep the position permanently. Right now I am scheduled to go back to Infinity when the ship closes as an apprentice purser, but Amy was scheduled to go to Constellation when the ship closes, but now will be staying on Century. I'm hoping that I will be able to go to Constellation instead, and keep the position as GAP. So, keep your fingers crossed for me! I'm going to have to work my ass off over the next few weeks!

Okay, that's it for me for now, keep in touch! write me lots! I miss everyone!

Love,

Good Start to the Caribbean...

I know what your thinking, she's already up to her old habits of not updating you often enough...I'm sorry, but you know when you have so many port days, and the chrsitmas season it's hard to get internet time in!

Okay, so what's happened???? SO MUCH! I've been out in St Lucia - a wonderful place to eat there called the Coal Pot, you have to take a water taxi across the bay to it, and it's lovely right on the water - a little steep pricewise, but it's SO good. I've been on the Summit when we met it in St Maarten, looks a lot like my last ship, but it was nice to visit some people I knew from Infinity there. I also went out, to my current most favorite place - BARBADOS! OMG, it's so beautiful, we went to a beach (it was dec 23rd, for those of you stuck in the snow storm then!) I spent hours in the water, got a bit sunburnt - oops...and it was so relaxing. I felt 100 miles away from the ship...I've also been out to the terminal for a bit of shopping in Granada, I'm told the town is rather eeewww, so if going out there we should be taking a taxi to the beach...went out by myself in Aruba, cute town, expensive, but I liked it...When we turned around in San Juan for the new years cruise, I got to go out and shop at the American Plaza, Such a nice mall, can't wait to go back!

On the cruise we are on now, so far i've only been out in Curacao, which is also a really cute town, very dutch. We ended up having bad food there, but it was new years day, and there really wasn't much open to select from...but still nice to get out.

Okay, what else is new? Onboard - we had a good christmas, not too christmassy feeling but i think that made me miss home less, cause it just didn't feel like it. They requested Officers to come and serve the food, and so I helped out with that, it was really fun. Then they had a party for us in one of the guest lounges, the music stunk, but it was nice to get to meet some new people and chat with the friends I've already made. I've made some good friends here already, so I'm very settled and happy. I'm already one month onboard! I can't believe it's been that long already! I also met a new man on christmas, we didn't get to chat much but I definitely liked him from the moment we met and he seemed to have liked me as well...New Years was a great party, we joined the guests on the pool deck for the countdown, and had a couple of drinks before heading to the crew party where I met up with Patric again, I had such a nice time, dancing, and getting to know Patric.

Today, I had a bit of a date with Patric, we were supposed to go out in Barbados, but he's got special cleaning tonight for the USPH inspection, and was quite tired, and felt if he went out he would be too tired, so we met up here on the crew outside deck to chat and get to know one another better, he's a very sweet man. He's from South Africa, and he is also on his 2nd contract, just came onboard one cruise before I did.

I also got some work news today, well, it's news for now, but of course there's lots of time between now and then, so things could change. I am scheduled to leave Galaxy after it closes on March 18th, and go back to the Infinity. So, come the end of May I could be back to visiting you all at home every thursday evening! Although the times are better, we arrive at 3pm and leave at 9pm! Still a short time, but at least it`s not a midnight!

I am so happy on this contract so far, it feels even better than the last right now, and I can`t wait to see what happens next! We will be going to St Lucia, Dominica , St Kitts and Tortola over the next few days so I hope to get out in most of them and catch some of the sites! You`ll notice that I`ve posted a bunch of pictures today as well!

Miss you all! Please write soon!
